POKOTABI / Uosan Sakaba
魚三酒場 常盤店
At Uosan Sakaba in the Morishita and Kiyosumi-shirakawa area, pull up a seat at the U-shaped counter for affordable sashimi like chutoro and horse mackerel, hot boiled tofu, simmered fish collars, and soothing egg soup to finish.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Looking up at the slip-of-paper menus lining the walls while ordering a bottle of beer or a flask of sake is the customary way to settle into Uosan Sakaba. From seats arranged around the large U-shaped counter, diners catch the eye of staff briskly moving across the open center to place their orders as the evening gets underway.
Plates of sashimi prepared from the refrigerated display arrive without delay, bringing items like medium-fatty chutoro, lean tuna, horse mackerel, and ark shell straight to the counter at modest prices. Between bites of raw fish, popular choices include hot boiled tofu blanketed in chopped scallions and bonito flakes, rich simmered fish trimmings, and lightly fried horse mackerel. From freshly fried tempura platters to fragrant grilled fish, the casual appeal lies in stacking up small plates one by one at your own pace.
As drinks wind down, a staple order is the house's signature fish soup with a poached egg dropped into the bowl. Packed with rich savory notes drawn from fish bones, the piping-hot broth gently settles the stomach after several rounds. Service begins at 16:00 in the evening, and payment is strictly cash only, making it an easy, comfortable stop to drop into solo with some coins and thousand-yen bills in hand.
